I usually don't like to use the flash, and I was indoors on a cloudy/rainy day. I believe this was taken in Tv-mode, with exposure compensation to lighten it back up. I lightened it up some more in post-processing. Although taken at ISO 400 the grain looks more "natural" in a black and white snapshot.
This picture was taken with the "Super Macro" mode of the S2 IS, which is just so fun to use. The lens is practically touching the ladybug on this shot, as my son lets it crawl on his finger.
I was floored by the S2's abilities with this shot. It was taken at ISO 400, in Tv mode at 1/60 sec from the audience at the symphony (the guy on the left is my brother-in-law). I supported my arm on an armrest and set the camera for high continuous shooting. I would then pick a good moment and take 5 or 10 shots in a row, keeping my arm as still as possible. Usually a couple great shots would come out of each burst. Since there was so little light available I also bumped up the exposure compensation by 1 stop.

I did also need to do some noise reduction and a little sharpening in post-processing, but overall I felt so impowered to be able to snag this type of shot from so far away. It also showed me that ISO 400 is not "useless" as so many people say. It definately has its uses.
On a nice sunny day I ran into an unexpected limitation of the S2 IS. I was trying to take a picture where I panned with my kids riding and blurred the background. The trouble is that the camera has a maximum of f/8! So I couldn't stop down enough to prevent blowing out the image at low exposure times such as 1/30 sec.
For this shot I locked in at aperture f/4.0, since I read in a forum that it produces nice sharp pictures with this camera. I would have to say that I agree, I can't believe how sharp many of these pictures came out!
Using the flash at my daughter's ballet class turned out pictures that I am very happy with. My old Canon Powershot S45 would never have made using the flash look this natural, and as you can see I love the large zoom of this camera.. in fact, I think that backing up and zooming in, when used with the flash, can produce much more natural looking lighting conditions.
This is a shot taken in Tv-priority mode at 1/1000 sec. I was able to freeze the action, and I focus-locked before he jumped out so I could ensure a quick shot. The way I did that was by telling him to swing back and forth for a while.. when he was about at the point which I knew he would jump out, I focused on him. Then I let him know I was ready, and waited until he jumped to depress the shutter button all the way.
This is another shot locked in on f/4.0. I'm sure many cameras can produce such clear results, but this blows away my expectations for this camera. This also was taken at the long end of the zoom, showing that you can blur the background, and also that there isn't much softness (to my eyes) at this aperture, even at the long end of the zoom.
Here I captured the picture with the saturation, sharpness, and contrast all set to minimum levels with a custom function. Then in post-processing I manually adjusted saturation and then sharpness to a level I thought looked best.
